Provincial public sector capacity building Exposure visit program on Good governance And leadership in public sector for Provincial Councilors Officials of Uva Province, Sri Lanka 16th January -25th January 2016

The program expands the capacities in provincial governance for effective decentralization, strengthening social cohesion, managing socio economic developments and delivering better public service in the region.

The program also supports political leaders in developing mechanisms and policies through public consultations and collaborative management to play their constitutionally mandated service delivery. The exposure visits in Indonesia and Thailand aims to enhance their capacity development on decentralization process, good governance practices through learning from best practices in different community in Indonesia and Thailand.

The training subject  focuses on public sector leadership, good governance and decentralization, public private partnership and sustainable rural development. The program is designed based on the concept “learning and working together” of leaders and officials towards an objective and covering class room session and field visits at projects community forum and local administration

Uva Provincial Council is functioning with 34 elected council Members. Hon Governor and Hon Chief Minister with the help of council members are playing significant role with the high level of commitment in policy making, program formulating and implementing needs of the community. At the same time, improvement of capacities and knowledge of elected councilors in policy making, development management and Good Governance is essential to perform their role in provincial administration in Uva Province. This exposure visit program to Indonesia and Thailand, enable them to facilitate and manage provincial council functions and provide better public service delivery successfully.

Recognizing the critical importance of upgrading the skills of political leaders in the Uva province, the Uva Province Provincial Council, Government of Sri Lanka has requested Asian Institute of Technology to design and implement a customized Professional Development Course on “Good Governance and Leadership in Public Sector”  in Indonesia and Thailand.
