Professional Development Training and Study Visit Program on Defence Policies, Governance, Administration and Management (Thailand & Malaysia); 1st February– 12th February 2016

This two weeks Professional Development Training and Study Visit Program on Defence Policies, Governance Administration and Management was prepared for Defence Headquarter Training Institute (DHTI), Government of India.  Eighteen (18) Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Service Officers and one (1) course director from DHTI were attending the program.  

The programs which are carried out in India have 6 weeks in duration and they include foreign training component that will allow the officers to have exposure of the experiences and best practices of different countries of governance issues and management in defence sector. The major thrust area of the program would be on policy formulation and analysis in defence management, especially the role of civilian personnel in the sector. 

This program, DHTI had collaborated with AIT Extension of the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand to organize such program for 2 weeks in Thailand and Malaysia. The primary aim of this professional development training cum study visit program was to provide the participants the latest/new methods and techniques for the effective implementation, management and evaluation of development projects/ programs, providing emerging concepts in organizational development and human resource management, and good governance with special emphasis on Defence Services.  The participants had the chance to exposure visit to best practices in defence administration and management in various Thai and Malaysia defence organizations.

Objective:

At the end of this professional development training cum study visit program the participants were able to:

  • Gain understanding of the government defence policies and strategies in Thailand and Malaysia;
  • Acquire sound practical exposure to various defence development projects; 
  • Developed understanding on how to enhance understanding of the roles of national defence in civilian affairs and in socio-economic development of the country;
  • Introduce proactive strategies to develop defence industrial policies and private sector participation; and
  • Discuss and exchange information and experiences with counterparts in the Thailand & Malaysia about policies and process that will support advancement of national defence.

 This program was held during 1 – 12 February 2016 at Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok and Open University Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur.
