AIT Extension Representative Office, Nepal, launched series of professional development training in Kathmandu, Nepal

On 27 June, 2010, AIT Extension Representative Office (AITER), Nepal and Development Bankers’ Association (DBA) jointly conducted two days training program on ‘Bank Risk Management’.

The training was instrumental in understanding various tools & techniques and international practices on risk management. Thirty participants from banking sectors attended the course. Dr. Supreeya Nicole from Standard Chartered Bank, Thailand was the lead resource person.

On the closing Ceremony, Dr Yuva Raj Khatiwada, Governor, Nepal Rastra Bank (Central Bank of Nepal) graced the occasion and congratulated AITER, Nepal and DBA for conducting training on a pertinent topic. Dr. Khatiwada noted that he hoped to see more similar programs in future.

Likewise, AITER in collaboration with National Banking Training Institute (NBTI), Nepal organized a second round of training program on “Performance Management”  from  9-11 July, 2010. Twelve organizations representing commercial banks, investment management companies and public sector organizations, participated in the course. Names comprised:  Janata Bank; NIC Bank; Nepal Investment Bank; Kist Bank; Brihat investment; Curriculum Development Centre; Sunrise Bank; National Centre for Educational Development; BEED Investment; Laxmi Bank and Nepal Merchant Bank (NMB).  The course was facilitated by Mr. Michael Lowe, a resource person from AIT Extension, Thailand.

The overall objective of the program was to upgrade participants’ knowledge and skills linking to performance management. Mr. Sashin Joshi, Chairman, National Bankers Training Institute (NBTI) expressed his delight to organize the program in close collaboration with AIT Extension. He also underlined the need for further collaboration in future. Addressing at the closing ceremony, Dr Shailendra Sigdel, AIT Extension Representative, Nepal, expressed his pleasure to collaborate with NBTI. He hoped that the achieved skills from the program would be useful to the participants in their day-to-day activities. He also informed about AIT Extension’s plan to provide professional development opportunities to private, public and development sectors in Nepal. He further highlighted the activities of AIT Extension in Thailand and urged participants to attend professional development courses in Thailand.
