Local Government and Community Participation in Rural Infrastructure Development Projects (Thailand-Vietnam)

Information Technology & Engineering Unit, AIT Extension is organizing a two-week professional development program on “Local Government and Community Participation in Rural Infrastructure Development Projects” (30 May – 10 June 2011) at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. The 12-day study visit and training program is intended to provide participants with an understanding of developmental issues and their inter-relationship with rural infrastructure development and  community participation. The program will enable participants secure information on current practice regarding the role of community participation in rural infrastructure development projects for strengthening the local governments in Thailand and Vietnam.

This study visit and training program in two countries, Thailand and Vietnam, will be organized in response to a recent request from Eastern Bangladesh Rural Infrastructure Development Project, LGED Headquarter. The Local Government Engineering Department under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives is engaged in the development of local government, community and rural infrastructure development, aimed towards the sustainable development of the country. Rural infrastructure development projects undertaken by LGED are contributing a great deal towards the socio-economic development of the rural community.
