ICT for Poverty Reduction and Rural Development Planning

Participants: Officers engaged in local development planning and poverty alleviation in rural areas, planners, rural development managers, senior officers from governmental organizations, NGOs.

Course Brief: This course focuses on the problem of the widening digital gap between rural and urban areas in addressing the issue of poverty alleviation in rural communities. It also aims to enhance the participants’ technical knowledge and skills on strategies and approaches in rural development planning and management using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in order to build the capacity and quality of rural life.

Course content covers subject area on ICT and poverty reduction, development planning and policies, application of GIS in rural development planning and ICT for development. It also includes study visit to observe local planning practices and rural development projects using ICT as tools for poverty reduction activities; visits to organizations and agencies for a briefing on their poverty reduction projects.
