Team AgroSentinel, a multidisciplinary team led by members of AIT Extension, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, has been awarded Third Prize in the New Service Track at the 4th FAO–CAAS Youth Hackathon on One Health, jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representation in China and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS).
The One Health Youth Hackathon is a global innovation platform that encourages young professionals to address interconnected challenges related to human, animal, plant, and environmental health. The 2025 edition was held as part of FAO’s 80th anniversary, emphasizing youth-led solutions that support sustainable agri-food systems and the organization’s “Four Betters” vision — Better Production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment, and Better Life.
The competition attracted applications from teams worldwide. Following a rigorous multi-stage evaluation process, 36 teams from 20 countries were selected for the semi-finals, and only 12 teams from 8 countries advanced to the global finals. AgroSentinel emerged among the top performers, securing Third Prize in the New Service Track.
AgroSentinel’s award-winning project, “AgroSentinel: Satellite-Guided Early Warning System for AMR and Zoonotic Disease Risk in Farming Systems,” presents a low-cost, scalable One Health monitoring solution integrating satellite remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology. The system identifies environmental risk hotspots using satellite data and validates them through targeted field sampling and laboratory analysis, supporting early detection and evidence-based decision-making in agricultural landscapes.
The team comprises Mr. Kona V. A. Kiran, Mr. Md. Anishur Rahman, and Mrs. K. Hari Chandana, with mentorship support from Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain. The achievement highlights the value of cross-institutional collaboration in advancing applied One Health innovations.
In their official communication, FAO and CAAS commended AgroSentinel’s vision and encouraged the team to continue refining and scaling the solution to generate broader regional and global impact.
