Connecting Learning with Monitoring and Evaluation: A Strategy for Minimizing Risks and Achieving Impacts

This online training program is organized by AIT Extension to support Chevron's social Investment project by emphasizing current challenges on M&E projects and sharing experience on the best practices of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) strategies and approaches.

The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of MEL's components and apply it with their real-life M&E activities during the pandemic. Learners will learn from practitioners how to develop M&E pathways that foster measurement of results and respond to current changes in M&E contexts. Boarding perspectives for innovative ways to develop tools and reporting mechanisms that help make decisions for project implementation.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

  • To achieve a comprehensive understanding of the concepts, approach, and tools for Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)
  • To understand essential knowledge resources to prepare an M&E plan for project implementation
  • Be able to adopt a result-based approach in planning projects and use the logical framework tool and be able to define measurable indicators to follow up and evaluate projects
 
Course Outline

The course contents consisted of 4 Modules as following:
 
Module 1: Project Cycle Management and M&E
Specific Objective: The participants can describe important components of M&E and process to integrate M&E in project cycle management

  • Overview of project cycle
  • Project M&E
  • Key concept of M&E and learning

Module 2: M&E Framework
Specific Objective: The participants will be familiar with current M&E frameworks being used by international development agencies

  • Theory of change
  • Results framework/log frame
  • General indicators used for impact assessment
  • Case example

Module 3: Research Design and Data Collection
Specific Objective: The participants will be able to discuss the preliminary design of M&E and Learning Tools

  • Baseline study
  • Research design for M&E
  • Formulating research questions
  • Methods for data collection
  • Data and case exercises

Module 4: Key Concepts of Result-based Management and MEL
Specific Objective: The participants will have concrete knowledge of result-based M&E approaches 

  • DEMER Model
  • Approach for generation of evidence
  • Creation of story and knowledge products
  • Techniques for report writing
