Professional Development Technical Training Course on Innovative Irrigation Management, 29 January – 7 February 2017

This 10 days Customized Professional Development Technical Training Course on Innovation Irrigation Management is prepared for 11 Officials of Department of Irrigation (DoI), Nepal during 29 January – 7 February 2017.

The Department of Irrigation (DoI) Nepal is responsible for development of new irrigation projects and O&M of developed schemes. For the last couple of years, DoI has been working with marginalized farmers in remote areas under the program of Non Conventional Irrigation Technology Project (NITP). The training program will help DoI to introduce modern innovative efficient irrigation methods and management principles which is ultimately going to help expanding irrigation area and improving irrigation efficiency for the food security of the nation.

To implement this training program, DoI has collaborated with AIT Extension of the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand to organize 10 days program in Thailand.  The program will cover the areas of irrigation management improvement approach including innovative plan and management options for the WRPPF project; co-management and Public Private Partnership (PPP) approaches; management, operation and maintenance (MOM) of irrigation projects; irrigation cost recovery; some modules on planning, designing and operation of irrigation/water resources development projects; water balance study, reservoir operation, operational status survey of project components and other pertinent subjects including elements of monitoring.

Objective:

The main aim of this professional development training course is to enhance the understanding, skills and capacity of the officials from Government of Nepal on Improved, Modern and Effective Irrigation management, stakeholders participation and institutional development. This Exposure and Training program will help to provide real-world practices and solutions on improved irrigation management in rural Thailand.  This will help the WRPPF in achieving its aims of providing benefits to the farmers in Nepal for the enhancement of agricultural productivity.   Some of the key issues to be addressed during the training program are:

  • Integrated Approached in Irrigation System Management and Participatory Irrigation Management
  • Integrated Water Resource Management and Modernization of Irrigation System
  • Improving Irrigation Management Performance
  • Public Private partnership (PPP) Approaches in Irrigation Management
  • Irrigation System Planning Development and Management
  • Climate Change Impacts on Hydrology, Water Resources and Water Use Sectors
  • Innovative Management and Development in Irrigation Sectors

This program will be conducted from 29 January – 7 February 2017 at Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok.
