Identification of Suitable Locations for Harnessing Wind and Solar Energies

Course Introduction

This course focuses on the intersection of geospatial science and renewable energy development. It provides participants with the technical knowledge and practical tools needed to assess wind and solar energy potential, using GIS to evaluate spatial and environmental factors that influence site selection. Through real-world examples, the course demonstrates how to use geographic data to support sustainable energy planning, resource estimation, and investment prioritization. It is tailored for energy planners, GIS analysts, and policy professionals involved in green infrastructure and low-carbon development.

The course comprises the following key modules, each addressing critical aspects of spatial energy assessment:

  • Module 1 – Introduction to Energy Systems
  • Module 2 – Wind Energy System
  • Module 3 – Solar Energy

Key Learning Outcomes

  1. 1. Understanding on solar and wind energy as key contributors for sustainable development.
  2. 2. Capable to analyze solar and wind resource data for estimating energy potential.
  3. 3. Capable to select suitable sites for harnessing wind and solar energy using geospatial techniques
