Multi-Hazard Risk Assessment for Planning and Development

Course Introduction

This course is designed for professionals involved in disaster risk reduction, urban development, and infrastructure planning. It introduces the principles and methodologies for conducting multi-hazard risk assessments, integrating hazard, exposure, and vulnerability data to inform safer, more resilient planning. Participants will explore the use of the RiskChanges open-source platform and learn how to quantify potential losses from natural hazards. The course helps build a solid foundation for making risk-informed decisions, designing risk reduction strategies, and strengthening development planning in hazard-prone regions.

The course is organized into the following practical modules:

  • Module 1 – Introduction to Multi-Hazard Risk Assessment
  • Module 2 – Introduction to RiskChanges platform
  • Module 3 – Hazard, Vulnerability and Risk Analysis

Key Learning Outcomes

  1. 1. Understand the concepts of hazard assessment, elements at risk mapping, vulnerability assessment, and risk assessment.
  2. 2. Loss assessment and generate risk maps for risk-informed decision making.
