Course Introduction
This course is designed for professionals involved in disaster risk reduction, urban development, and infrastructure planning. It introduces the principles and methodologies for conducting multi-hazard risk assessments, integrating hazard, exposure, and vulnerability data to inform safer, more resilient planning. Participants will explore the use of the RiskChanges open-source platform and learn how to quantify potential losses from natural hazards. The course helps build a solid foundation for making risk-informed decisions, designing risk reduction strategies, and strengthening development planning in hazard-prone regions.
The course is organized into the following practical modules:
- Module 1 – Introduction to Multi-Hazard Risk Assessment
- Module 2 – Introduction to RiskChanges platform
- Module 3 – Hazard, Vulnerability and Risk Analysis
Key Learning Outcomes
- 1. Understand the concepts of hazard assessment, elements at risk mapping, vulnerability assessment, and risk assessment.
- 2. Loss assessment and generate risk maps for risk-informed decision making.
