Dr. Sean O. Ferguson is currently a Senior Associate Dean at Asia School of Business (ASB) in Malaysia. ASB is a collaboration between the MIT Sloan School of Management and Bank Negara Malaysia (the Central Bank of Malaysia). Ferguson is responsible for growing the student body, accreditation, career development, employer relations, and alumni affairs.
Prior to ASB, Ferguson was Associate Dean of MBA & MSc Programs at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Business School. Under his leadership, HKUST achieved unprecedented reputational gains, becoming the first Asian MBA program to be ranked in the four major rankings publications: The Financial Times, The Economist, BusinessWeek, and Forbes. In addition to reputation enhancements, Ferguson set all-time highs for enrollment in the HKUST MBA programs. Ferguson also spent eight years at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business having a similar impact on the growth and reputation of its degree programs.
Ferguson has international board experience covering the United States, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. Currently, Ferguson is serving on the board of MBA CSEA, where he was the first elected board member from an Asia-Pacific business school. Ferguson has also served on the boards of the CEMS Global Alliance, the American Chamber of Commerce-Hong Kong, and the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC). Dr. Ferguson also serves as an accreditation mentor for AACSB.
Prior to joining the higher education industry, Ferguson worked in the corporate sector with leading companies such as Capgemini and Procter & Gamble. His corporate experience includes operations & manufacturing, executive selling, business development, and product development & management via the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), management consulting, and software industry.
Ferguson received his doctorate in Global Education from the University of Southern California. His area of expertise focuses on employability and career management in Asia-Pacific. He also has an MBA from Rice University and a BS in Engineering from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
