Consultative Meeting on: Regional cooperation to promote the adoption and utilization of renewable energy technology in the Asia-Pacific region

On 7 and 8 October, 2010, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in conjunction with Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) hosted a two-day consultative meeting at AIT campus, Bangkok, Thailand on regional cooperation to promote the adoption and utilization of renewable energy technology in the Asia-Pacific region. The meeting was the first joint initiative under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) duly signed by AIT and APCTT of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

Ten country representatives from Bangladesh, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand attended the meeting. The Meeting was chaired by Professor Joydeep Dutta, Vice President of Academic Affairs, AIT and co-chaired by Mr. Marc Proksch, Economic Affairs Officer and In-charge of the Trade and Investment Division of UNESCAP, Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Krishnamurthy Ramanathan, Head, APCTT welcomed the participants. AIT was represented by Prof. Sivanappan Kumar and Dr. Abdul Salam, Energy, School of Environment, Resources & Development; Prof. Nazrul Islam, School of Management; and Mr. Fazle Karim and Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, AIT Extension.

The meeting highlighted the issues with APCTT’s presentations on their initiatives on Renewable Energy Technology (RET) and Knowledge Management in the Asia-Pacific Region. AIT’s presentations coveredAIT’s partnerships; its role in the regional and global initiatives & networks; and 30 years of its academic and research experiences on RET.
