Agriculture, Resources and Environment Unit, AIT Extension in cooperation with Disaster Prevention and Food Security Program Coordination Office, Amhara Region, Ethiopia has commenced a two-week training program on “Disaster Prevention and Food Security” (28 May – 08 Jun, 2012). Ten participants comprising heads and administrators from the regional government bodies associated with disaster prevention and food security divisions are currently attending the program in Bangkok.
The overall objective of this program is to demonstrate how to ensure food security within the context of disaster and climate change issues by widening and broadening the participants’ knowledge particularly on the livelihood and coping strategies for people vulnerable to disaster and food insecurity. The program features technical sessions on food security issues and measures, research and extension to counteract food insecurity, government initiatives, early warning systems for disaster and local level adaptation. Additional stimulating aspect of this program is to expose the participants to the recent changes in Thailand's national food security policies and strategies to cope along the extreme climate change.
