Disaster Prevention and Food Security (Batch II): Hosted for Ethiopian Officials

Agriculture, Resources and Environment Unit, AIT Extension has successfully hosted a training program on “Disaster Prevention and Food Security” (18 – 29 June, 2012) for 12 Ethiopian delegates (Batch II) in Bangkok, Thailand. The participants comprised Heads and Administrators from regional government bodies involving with disaster prevention and food security issues in Ethiopia.

The program was designed in response to a request from the Disaster Prevention and Food Security Program Coordination Office, Amhara Region, Ethiopia. The overall objective of the program was to ascertain how to ensure food security within the context of disaster and climate change issues. It focused on widening and broadening the participants’ understanding and knowledge on livelihoods and coping strategies aimed at people vulnerable to disaster and food insecurity. The program thus covered technical sessions on food security issues and measures, research and extension to counteract food insecurity, Thai government initiatives, early warning systems for disaster and local level adaptation.
