This ten day long professional development training program on Leadership in Agricultural Research Management is tailored to the needs for future research managers from Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy, who are responsible for achieving technical changes in developing the country. "

Background

Leadership is one of the most important predictors to effectively adapt and perform in a dynamic environment. The development of effective leaders and leadership behavior is a prominent concern in all type of organizations across the globe, which are undergoing revolutionary changes, and they need a new kind of leadership thinking to cope with the challenges, plan strategically and envision the future of the organization. Therefore, leadership development has emerged as an active field of theory building and research, providing a more scientific and evidence-based foundation to augment the long-standing practitioner interest in the topic. Despite the fact that organizations are increasing their investments in leadership development, there is an emerging consensus that the source of leadership talent is insufficient to meet the needs of contemporary organizations. It has been studied that “leadership development could be one of the integration strategies by helping people understand how to relate to others, coordinate their efforts, build commitments, and develop extended social networks by applying self-understanding to social and organizational imperatives.”

In many Asian countries, education, training institutions, and government organizations have been considered as a key component of human resource development.
